Hi Fourth Grade Families!

My name is Emily Thornton and I will be your child’s fourth grade teacher this year.  I am looking forward to meeting my students and their families!

While this is my first year at Keiller Leadership Academy, I have previous experience teaching. After graduating from West Chester University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Literacy, I spent two years teaching in Philadelphia, PA. While in Philadelphia, I taught kindergarten and first grade. I moved to San Diego one year ago, and spent the past year as a long-term sub for a fifth grade class in Chula Vista.

Outside of school, I enjoy being outdoors doing activities such as hiking, swimming, and biking. I have a little rescue dog named Charlie who also enjoys being outdoors, so I love taking him on adventures as a way to explore San Diego! I also enjoy boxing, and am a volunteer for Rock Steady, which is a boxing program for patients fighting Parkinson’s Disease. I really enjoy using my passion for teaching to help Parkinson’s fighters build a sense of personal strength and belonging. These are elements that I value in my classroom, as well!

I am so excited to begin this school year and am looking forward to building a strong community of students who are a respectful and safe group of learners! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to email me at ethornton@mykla.org or call me 619-263-9266 x 2015.

Thank you!
