Dear Students, Parents, and Families,
My name is John Bonito, and this is my fifth year teaching fourth grade at Keiller Leadership Academy.
After graduating with my Master’s in Education from Quinnipiac University, in Connecticut, I taught English at an academy in Barcelona, called the American Lakes School. This was a very interesting experience because I was able to meet people from all over the world, and also had an opportunity to improve my Spanish (but I could always use more practice). The next year, I moved back to my home-state of Massachusetts, where I worked for Boston Public Schools as a middle school academic adviser and dual language paraprofessional. From there, I moved to Arizona to teach sixth grade Language Arts at a charter school called ACCLAIM Academy. After visiting San Diego several times when I lived in Arizona, I fell in love with the city and decided to move here.
Outside of school, I like to stay active and spend time outdoors. Some of my favorite things to do are running, playing basketball, sailing, surfing, and hiking. On the weekends I love to watch sports; my favorite teams are the Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots, although I know my teams won't get a lot of support in this part of the country... I also really like cooking, which my friends like too because they get to eat all of my great recipes!
Our classroom is going to have a schedule that we will to follow daily. After checking homework each morning, students will have a block for Math and Humanities. Following those subjects, we will have time to work on our writing, before Science or in the afternoon. Students will also have three electives this year: Music, Art, and P.E. with Band or Dance being a fourth optional elective.
KLA is a school that encourages and expects students to “be respectful, be safe, and be a leader.” Those are three ideas that we are going to work with everyday throughout all of our classes. I’m looking forward to a great year! Please do not hesitate to contact me by email at email@example.com or by phone 619-263-9266 x 2013 if you have any questions or concerns.
