My name is Mr. Roach and I am so excited to be your child’s fifth grade teacher this year. This is my fourth year at Keiller Leadership Academy and I am looking forward to collaborating with such a great team and community. I have high expectations for my students, but only because I know that they are more than capable and ready to meet the challenges to come. I believe that we are a team inside the classroom and I plan to help foster teamwork, respect, and kindness.
I am a San Diego native. I have always enjoyed the amazing opportunities and diversity that this city has to offer. I have a background in art and graphic design, which I plan to draw from this year. I received my degree from San Diego State University, and then completed the credential program in 2012. I am married and have three children, Evie (6), Elliott (4), and Austin (7 months). I love spending time with my family at the zoo or the beach, and I also enjoy playing music, creating art, and watching movies.
In our class this year your students will be learning to work together to problem solve and to become critical thinkers. We will be practicing a growth mindset, which means to always be striving to better ourselves and develop our learning. We will focus on revising and improving our work until we meet the standards we have set for ourselves. We will have a lot to learn and experience, everything from the Constitution, to multiplying and dividing fractions, to engineering.
I plan to have an open dialog with each parent so that we can always be clear on what your child is learning and excelling at, and what they may need extra support with in class as well as at home. I am looking forward to meeting each and every one of you and I feel that this year will be truly great.
