My name is Gail Olson and I am thrilled to be here at KLA! I have taught in both the Montessori and public forum. Both formats are valuable and have much to add to the classroom environment. I completed my Montessori primary education early in my career, then decided to move into Elementary education. I completed my Masters and K-5 Credential through USC @ MAT in 2012. I began my Elementary training as a substitute in Fallbrook School district in 2008, then moved to San Diego Unified School District to complete my student teaching. I taught in SDUSD for 3 years in K-3, then moved to Encinitas Country Day School for the last three years in Kindergarten and First grades. I love connecting with Elementary students, and have high expectations for their academic and character development. To teach all content areas and for transitions I integrate music into my daily routine utilizing my supplementary music degree attached to my credential. Students love to engage and connect a new concept learned to a song.
I have three daughters, who are 24, 20 and 16 years old. I am proud of the beautiful, loving and smart girls they have become. (Yes, of course I’m biased) My youngest plays competitive soccer which keeps our family busy. We enjoy shopping, going to the beach, movies and traveling. We had a taste of travel during my girl’s dad’s military years in the Navy. I am accustomed to the struggles and challenges military children and students who move often encounter. I can relate and know how to address these transitions.
In my free time I love to read, hang out with my girls, look at Pinterest for teaching ideas, and exercise as often as I can. I take workout classes, run, bike, rollerblade or any other activities that will get me outside.
I am eager to meet my new students and their parents and families. I view the teacher, parents and KLA staff as team partners in your child’s education.
