Ms. Thomas

Hi! Welcome to 6th grade math!!  I am really excited about the 2018-2019 school year. This is my second year at KLA. I have my BA in Sociology from SDSU. I earned my dual credentials from Point Loma Nazarene University through their Masters  program. I have a multiple subject credential and a mild/mod special education credential.

I am excited for this year of math learning. I spent my summer reflecting on my teaching last year. I analyzed my lessons and how students did on their assessments. With that in mind I am adding activities to my lessons this year that I think will enhance the learning, deepen the understanding, and foster engagement in learning  that takes place in my classroom.

In this math class students will be using the CPM (College Preparatory Math) curriculum. This curriculum starts in 6th grade and students will continue the CPM curriculum in 7th and 8th grade. In 6th grade students will work through concepts in teams. Students are learning how to work together and collaborate effectively while solving math problems. This style of CPM encourages students to work within their teams to determine the best ways to solve the problems.  As their teacher I will interact with all students at both the group and individual levels to help facilitate their learning as they work through various challenges. I will ask thought provoking questions to help them and encourage them as they work through the concepts. I am excited to work with the students this year to help them understand the concepts and continue to have a growth mindset while learning math.

I am looking forward to creating mathematical leaders this year through our CPM curriculum and teamwork focus.

I am looking forward to a great 2018-2019 year at KLA!!
