Shared reading of a technical document: job application.
1. What type of text is this?
2. What do I expect from this type of text?
3. How will I set myself up to read this?
Class discussion: How would you successful y complete this application? Chart responses; then model the correct way to fill it out.
Independent Practice

Students will read the list of jobs available in the classroom and pick one or two they would like to apply for. Student will fill the application for the job they would like to do for the first quarter.
Grammar

Review capitalization rules we charted yesterday. Hand out “Editing for Mechanics” from All Write 328-329 and ask them to create a chart with the rule, and a sample sentence that uses the rule correctly.
Homework

Complete the capitalization chart with sentence for each.
