Hello Students and Parents,

My name is Jonathan Saenz and I teach 6^th-8^th grade art. Prior to working at KLA I taught at MacDowell Elementary, Keiller Middle School before it became a charter school, and Gompers Charter Middle School. I attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, my hometown, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and Illustration. Shortly after college, I moved to San Diego and completed my teaching credential at National University. I am currently working towards my Master's Degree at the Florence Academy of Art. I enjoy working with middle school students and have always taught at the middle school level.

 

Since I can remember, I’ve always been interested in drawing and painting. In fact, I took my first art class when I was in 6th grade at a local art academy in the evenings. I still use some of the lessons I learned in that class today. In my free time, I do a lot of my own paintings using mostly oil paints. Below, on the bottom right hand corner is a painting of my uncle I did a while back. I also enjoy sports, traveling, movies, and spending time with friends and families.

 

Students who take art will experience a variety of projects centered around drawing, painting and sculpture. Each year, I add a few new projects and rotate projects on a 2 to 3 year cycle so the class is not the same for students who take art consecutive years. In my class, I hope to provide students with a memorable experience in art in which they learn a variety of techniques and skills and gain an appreciation for the study of art history. I‘m looking forward to a great year!
